Explore Your Community

Exploring new places starts right from your driveway. Join Bike Centerville’s Community Rides and we will guarantee that you’ll see a park, neighborhood or shortcut which you never knew!

Bike Centerville and Centerville Washington Park District (CWPD) have been working together to create fun bike rides in and around Centerville and Washington Township. The rides are led by trained bike leaders and will teach you safe routes to shopping, parks and more. The rides are usually 10 to 15 miles long and last 60 to 90 minutes. These rides are “no sweat”, meaning the pace is slow with several stops to keep everyone together.  In 2021, the Bike Centerville rides within our community also took us to Austin Landing, Fraze Pavilion and Cox Arboretum.  This year we have planned twelve rides including a 22 mile “advanced ride” from Centerville to the Oregon District and back. Those who attended every ride in 2021 tallied over 150 miles!

The first ride of 2022 is scheduled for May 1 and starts at Concept Park just south of Centerville High School. Some folks ride to the starting point, others opt to drive to the ride start with their bikes. While helmets are mandatory, clothing is your choice. Most riders wear gym shoes and comfy, stretchy shorts or pants. If you wear pants, be sure to tuck them in your socks or bring a strap to keep your pant leg out of the chain.

There are many styles of bicycles on our rides, however, most have gears to make the pedaling easier when pedaling up a hill. Most riders have upright bikes with straight handlebars, but all safe/maintained bikes are welcome. Our ride leaders perform a quick tutorial before the start of our rides to review bike maintenance and road safety and carry a first aid kit and supplies for simple bicycle repairs.

Community rides have perks:  Staying healthy while meeting new people that like to ride, learning how to ride safely in a group, practicing riding on trails and streets and developing confidence in street-riding.

You can find the schedule of rides on the CWPD website. The organizers limit the number of rides to ensure everyone’s safety, so please sign up on the website. We are looking forward to a great biking season!
